Organ donation is major surgery. It hurts like any other surgery. When a physician removes one kidney he cuts you open. It hurts. When a physician removes half of your liver, it hurts. There are no nerve endings in your liver. Your liver itself does not hurt. Still, it bleeds a lot. You are made very weak. You have to eat bland food because of the damage to your system and it takes six weeks for your liver to grow back. If one kidney is removed, it never grows back.
