Best Answer

NO, They are very different, just opposite of each other

Osmosis is when a solvent (like water) moves through a semi-permeable membrane, from a solution of low concentration, to a solution with high concentration.

Diffusion is the movement of molecules in a solvent, from a region of higher concentration to one of lower concentration by random molecular motion.

What type are osmosis and diffusion?

diffusion and osmosis are types of ways to get materials into or out of a cell

How does water enter or leave the uni cellular organism by diffusion or osmosis?

osmosis is a form of diffusion. in regard to water, the diffusion type would be osmosis

Why is osmosis often thought to be a special type of diffusion?

Osmosis only works BECAUSE OF diffusion.

Osmosis is a type?

of diffusion (of water)

What two requirements distinguish osmosis from diffusion?

Diffusion and osmosis are both types of passive transport. The two requirements that distinguish osmosis from diffusion are the presence of a membrane and the type of substance.

How do diffusion and osmosis differ from one another?

Diffusion and osmosis differ because diffusion is the process by which molecules spread out, or move from areas with high concentration to low concentration, and osmosis is the diffusion of water. Osmosis is a type of diffusion relating to water. It is usually used to describe the diffusion of water across a membrane (such as the cell membrane). Osmosis is also defined as the flow of solvent from a region of higher pressure toward a region of low pressure.

What is the diffusion of water across a semipermeable memberane?

Diffusion of water across a semipermeable membrane is a type of simple diffusion given the special name of osmosis.

How is osmosis related diffusion?

Osmosis and diffusion are similar in that there is a net movement of molecules from a high concentration of those molecules to a lower concentration. Osmosis is a special type of diffusion that deals with the movement of water only. Osmosis also deals with a semipermeable membrane (like our cell membranes). Diffusion can occur anywhere such in a glass of water when you add sugar but it can occur around cells.

Osmosis does not require what?

Osmosis does not require a cell to expand its own energy. Osmosis is a type of diffusion process for water.

Osmosis is a type of?

Diffusion. Osmosis is the diffusion of water across a membrane.Osmosis is a special type of diffusion. It is the movement of water molecules only from a solution of higher water potential to a solution of lower water potential across a selectively permeable membrane. The characters in bold indicate the specificity of osmosis as compared to diffusion.

How does osmosis and diffusion differ?

Osmosis is a type of diffusion but through a barrier (membrane) while "diffusion" is not specified if there is a physical barrier or not. Gases diffuse through each other readily.

How do you describe osmosis?

A special type of diffusion through a membrane
