I've been told that many people have little or no pain during the process of breast reconstruction with expanders. That was not true for me. I had moderate to acute pain during the process and have mild pain or discomfort in the reconstructed breast although it's been almost three years. Very good underwire Bras help with improving comfort, as does sleeping with a very soft down pillow against my chest. I was 62 at the time of surgery, fairly flat chested and rather slim. I don't know if these things made my experience worse.
