"Pete was on Anxiety drugs, specifically "Ativan" for his depression. SO, Pete was prescribed these pills, for his Chronic Depression.. He's not a drugee, he never smoked, he doesnt pop pills either, it was an overdose of an extra 1 pill.."
This is just not accurate. There is a Playboy interview that states differently, I believe Ecstasy is mentioned in there somewhere . Furthermore, an overdose of an extra 1 pill, would be simply a double dose, that is technically an overdose. A double dose of Ativan doesn't send you to the hospital. As far as the hackneyed term "overdose" goes (we say someone OD'd when they had to be sent to hospital, when the amount of drugs in their system is over the amount it can handle), during an "OD" you can't really calculate how many pills were too much.
Now of course there isn't a clear answer for this currently. However, he is/was the lyricist for FOB. If you read the lyrics, especially the last two LPs (IOH and FAD), if he wasn't on drugs or had never been on drugs, he seemed to know an awful lot about addiction. "I sing the blues and swallow them too" Blues can be slang for amphetamines such as 10mg adderal or downers like valium. same song more direct "sometime we take chances sometime we take pills" There are a couple other vague references on IOH. FAD is another story. "Detox just to retox" "i don't know much about classic cars, but i got a lot of friends stuck on classic coke" (coke is slang for cocaine, also the original "classic Coca-Cola" contained cocaine, not only drug reference but a very witty one at that) "give me a pen, call me MR Benzedrine" Benzedrine is an old amphetamine (speed.) The song West Coast Smoker, has a paranoid/delusion type setting that leads me to think the song is more about meth than pot, though it could be about either. In Tiffany Blews, "your pupils they big rollin like dice" reference to E (Ecstasy.) As when one takes E, the pupils become extremely dilated (big.) The song "Pavlove" a bonus track, seems to make vague references to cocaine use. The song 27, mentions "milligrams in my head" and "doing lines of dust and sweat" Dust can be a slang for a couple different drugs when insufflated (snorted) 27 tends to be the age when famous drug using rock stars die, Hendrix, Cobain, etc...
The way Stump sings it's often hard to precisely make out the words, but they are there. if one isn't a drug user or former drug user, it can be slightly difficult to pick up on these lyrics, much less write them. FOB used to be the band i'd "blast off too" during the height of my Morphine/Dilaudid addiction, specifically because of the lyrics, though the last concert i went to of theirs marks my "clean date." That's another thing, one can detox to these lyrics just as easily as being high off them, suggesting perhaps a past-tense drug use by the lyricist.
I could be way off on the interpretation of the lyrics of course. But there are some interviews out there that suggest the original answer is incorrect. I think perhaps too many fans, do not want to associate the band with anything like that (leading to that type of answer listed above.) But that was what was so great about FOB, different social groups could enjoy the music.
