No, phenobarbital is a barbiturate, which are not really used by anyone. Paramedics and other medical professions use benzodiazepines now which do the same things with less of a side effect. Benzodiazepines are muscle relaxers used mainly to stop seizures, but also used to help pt with anxiety. The three main benzo used are Valium (diazepam) Ativan (lorazepam) and Versed (midazolam).
