not exactly pizzas were first made in Greece not exactly pizzas werefirst made in greece Pizza - in various forms - has been popular in most middle eastern and Mediterranean countries and everywhere else where bread is cooked and sauces are made, which is everywhere. Unused bread dough is flattened and spread with sauce, cheese, yoghurt or whatever else is available, baked in the bread oven, and served as a snack. There is no way to pin down the origin of pizza, but the most famous pizza - the Margharita - is recorded as being created for the then Queen. Well crisped bread topped with sugo, mozarella and basil gave it the Italian national colours of red, white and green. It went from a family or farm - read, peasant - snack to a snack fit for a queen, and never looked back. The name pizza probably originated from the middle eastern pita or pitta, hence the Greek reference. Nowadays, of course, we have gournmet pizzas covered in all kinds of things (someone offered me Thai curried chicken the other night with added bok choy and aubergine) but I still like to order the good old Margharita with extra pancetta and mushrooms! I do believe there is no excuse whatsoever for putting pineapple on pizza, and hesitate about the bok choy and eggplant, but that's just me. Only my opinion, and not to influence the taste of others, which would be a wrong thing to do. Go for the eggplant, the zucchini and the bok choy! Even go for the dessert pizzas, unknown in Italia, covered in sweet sauces and chocolate and fruit. All food styles migrate and we have no right to suggest they shouldn't. A chocolate pizza can be a wonderful thing.
