The moon is a satellite.

If it was by itself the Moon would probably be classified as a planet, or maybe a dwarf planet.

But since it is orbiting a planet it is classified as a moon, a natural satellite

It is definitely not a star.well i think it's just a big crater that once was apart of earth that got knocked off then fell in our orbit and became our moon. at least that's what I was told in earth science

No, the moon is not a star in the solar system.

The sun is the only star in the solar system. Stars are gigantic balls of gas. Under gravity gases( mostly hydrogen) comes together and slowly forms a ball of gas. After millions of years this ball of gases becomes very dense and hot, at the core hydrogen gas fused together due to the immense pressure and heat. This reaction gives the star its full birth like the sun.

On the other the moon is not made up of gases but, rocks, minerals, dust, sand, etc. In scientific term it is one of the 61 satellites of the solar system. And not all planets have satellites. Earth 1, Mars 2, Jupiter 16, Saturn 18, Uranus 15, Neptune 8, Pluto 1 are the planets having satellites (with their number of satellites as designated).

Satellites are those planetary objects that orbits around a planets.

There are two type of satellites.

1) Artificial Satellites: Those which are man made. Eg: Sputnik.

They are artificially made by man for many purpose like for broadcasting television, etc.

2) Natural Satellites: Those planetary objects ( round) that are found in nature, orbiting a planet. Eg: Moon.
