Poems are not simpler works of literature as many thinks. In the other forms of literature such as novels, essays, short stories, travelogues and biographies the author gets a larger canvass to write and more freedom of movement. When the same ideas are to be expressed in a poem, lesser number of words need be used resulting in more refinement of words. In poems, the writer has fewer chances of freedom in diction and movement. Therefore, generally, poems are not simpler forms of literature, either in its writing or in its ability to carry and convey messages. Perhaps it can be said that, in a way, poems are fairly simpler works when compared to another form of literature i.e. real dramas. But most of the ancient and famous dramas were almost poetry.
