Best Answer

No. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the “Mormon†church) discontinued the practice of polygamy in the United States in 1890 and internationally in 1903. Anyone found entering into a polygamous marriage since that time has been excommunicated from the church. The polygamy ban caused some polygamy supporters to split from the church and create their own groups, many of which are still in existence today. Members of these groups often refer to themselves as “Mormon Fundamentalistsâ€, although they are not affiliated with the mainstream Mormon church.

Is polygamy still practiced in the US?

Yes, polygamy is still practiced in the United States by some groups of people, but not with legal consent.

Why do Mormons get away with the practice of polygamy?

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) have not practiced polygamy since 1890. Anyone found doing so is excommunicated from the Church. There is a break-off group called the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) who call themselves Mormons but are not associated with the original Mormon church (or its practices) beyond the name; this group still believes in and practices polygamy.

What is the percentage of countries that allow polygamy?

0%. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" Church) have been forbidden to practice polygamy for over 120 years. The practice of polygamy in the Mormon church was abolished in October 1890, and since that time anyone found entering into a polygamous marriage has been excommunicated from the Church. Those who disagreed with the polygamy ban broke away from the Mormon Church and started their own groups. Many of these groups are still in existence today. They sometimes are called "Mormon Fundamentalists", but they are not affiliated with the Mormon church and both groups (the Mormons and the Fundamentalists) see each other as apostates and don't want anything to do with each other.

When did the mormons stop practicing pologamy?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) discontinued the practice of polygamy in the United States in 1890 and internationally in 1903. Do momrans today believe in pologamy?

No. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) banned the practice of polygamy over 120 years ago, in 1890. Anyone found practicing polygamy since that time has been excommunicated from the Church. There were some who disagreed with this ban and left the Mormon church to form their own groups. Many of these groups still exist today and are sometimes referred to as "Mormon Fundamentalists." These groups are not affiliated with the regular Mormon Church and believe that the Mormon Church has left God's way. Do some momons still practice where they have more than one wife?

No. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) stopped allowing it's members to have more than one wife over 120 years ago in October 1890. Anyone found practicing polygamy since then has been kicked out of the Church. The only way that a Mormon may marry more than once is if their spouse dies or if they are divorced. There were some who disagreed with this new policy who left the Mormon church to begin their own groups. Many of these groups still exist today and do still practice polygamy. Sometimes these groups are called "Fundamentalist Mormons" because they broke off the of the Mormon church, however they are not affiliated with the Mormon church in any way and have tried to distance themselves from the Mormon Church as much as possible.

What lifestyle did the Mormon wives practice where the husband had more than 1 wife?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) allowed men to have more than one wife for a period of 50 years, between 1840 and 1890. This practice was called "polygamy" or "plural marriage". Polygamy has been banned in the Mormon church for over 120 years, and anyone found attempting to marry multiple wives is excommunicated from the church. There were some who disagreed with the polygamy ban. These broke off and formed their own groups, many of which still exist today. These groups have similar beliefs to the mainstream Mormon church, but still practice polygamy. They call themselves "Fundamentalist Mormons". There are less than 100,000 Fundamentalist Mormons, and there are over 14,000,000 Mainstream Mormons. The Mainstream Mormons and the Fundamentalist Mormons generally do not accept each other as legitimate.

Do the Church of Latter Day Saints teach polygamy?

No. The Church of Latter-Day Saints officially banned polygamy in the 1800's when the concept created much debate among the Mormons (another name for those who are affiliated with the Church of Latter Day Saints). However despite this ban many Mormons practice polygamy still. In Utah, about 60,000 Mormons practice polygamy (5% of the Utah Mormon population).

How do the mormon's wives feel about their husband having more than one wife?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) banned polygamy in 1890 and officially began ex-communicating people who practiced polygamy soon after this. Thus, you cannot be Mormon and a polygamist anymore. However, the women who were involved with this were OK with it because they believed it was a commandment from God. Actually I am a Mormon and we were never polygamists to begin with. Some people just broke off and decided they needed more wives and they still think they can call themselves true Mormons. Thus, real morons aren't polygamists.

Why did the court uphold the law against polygamy even though the mormon religion permitted marriage to more than one wife?

The Supreme Court made a law when a Mormon polygamist appealed the anti-polygamy law, saying that polygamy was his religious duty. The Supreme Court then made another law which says that religion cannot be used as an excuse to break the law. It doesn't matter if your religion is okay with polygamy, drug use, or anything else - it's still illegal. FYI, The Anti-Bigamy Act was enacted in 1862 and reinforced by the Edmunds Act in 1882. The Reynolds v United States case (mentioned above) took place in 1878. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) outlawed polygamy in 1890.

Where in the world can you get married to more than one person?

There are a number of Muslim countries where a man is allowed to take as many as four wives. Also, in some African countries, polygamy is still practiced. And although Mormonism has outlawed polygamy, there are still some fundamentalist Mormons who broke away from the LDS church so that they could continue to practice plural marriage.
