Is popping your mouth with your thumb bad for your gums and joints?

I used to do that all the time and it's quite fun but it can be bad for your cheekbone and gums
#1 it stretches your gums which can make them tear
#2 it rubs your gums hard up against your cheekbone which could push it out of place
#3 it can give your gum rashes and canker sores if done to often
