Actually, a desktop is much better at playing games, as the CPU is not so limited in size, therefore it cam be much more powerful.
A laptop or desktop, but PC games are sometimes difficult to tell if they are compatible with your computer, since you have to take some many system spec in a count. That why they build gaming computer they are top of the line, fast CPU's and powerful sound and graphics cards they will play any game, but they are expensive.
If money is no concern, start by upgrading CPU. It helps more when running games with alot of data, but definately more to graphics card next
