Is private revelation no longer available?

The kind of miraculous revelations of times past, such as visions and dreams from God, are no longer needed, because now we have the complete Bible. It is God's communication with us and it contains all the knowledge we need at this time, as is explained in 2 Timothy 3:15-17:

Since you were a child you have known the Holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise. And that wisdom leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for showing people what is wrong in their lives, for correcting faults, and for teaching how to live right. 17Using the Scriptures, the person who serves God will be capable, having all that is needed to do every good work.

Even if God were to provide miraculous personal revelations, even that would not be enough for some who are faithless and who disregard the Holy Scriptures. You may recall that some persons in Jesus' day, although they were personal eyewitnesses of his miracles or saw direct intervention by God, still remained in a stubborn, faithless, wrong course (John 12:9-11). Even some of Jesus' apostles asked for something more than the evidence and instruction they already had received directly from Jesus himself (John 14:8 and 20:25).

If we prayerfully and diligently work to understand The Bible, the deep wealth of knowledge that is contained in it will build our faith.
