That depends on what you are looking at. Reflectors are great for looking at galaxies close up and are usually cheaper. Refractors are better for seeing color in objects, however some brightness is lost as a result of the two-way mirror the light has to pass through.

What telescope did Sir Isaac Newton use?

reflecting telescope since it could capture more light than a refracting telescope. all of this was the beginning of spectroscopy

Why is a probe better than a telescope?

Because probes can land on surfaces of planets and moons whereas a telescope can't.

What is the difference between refracting telescopes and reflecting telescopes?

Hi , A reflective scope uses mirrors to focus the image and the light while a refractive scope uses curved glass lenses to focus the light and the image. Generally the reflector telescope is better for deep sky viewing and the refractor is better for lunar and planetary viewing. You can also find a compound telescope which uses both glass and mirrors which is better for general viewing. What are two different types of telescopes?

Refractors and reflectors. One should add the largely Russian-developed Cassegrainean combines features of both systems-called also Maksutov after its Russian inventor who was awarded the Staliln Prize for this feat. They are adapted to (Mirror=Lens) telephoto camera lenses, also.

Are the Casseragrain and the relfecting telescopes the same type of telescope?

The Cassegrain has a hole in the mirror, at the bottom of the scope, where the reflector mirror reflects the light onto the viewing piece. So, the Cassegrain is a reflection telescope but it's primary and secondary mirrors work a bit differently than most reflecting telescopes.

What are some types of telescopes?

there are two main types, all though there are five in total. the first one is called a refractor telescope, which uses a lense to bend the light into an eyepiece. these tend to fog up in winter time but give accurite pictures. a reflector telescope uses two mirors to reflect the light into the eyepiece. you can make these as big as you want and they dont fog up, but the immage can be distorted if the mirror angle is off by the slightest degree. of the two, i would say that the reflector is better than the refractor.there is a limmit to the size of the refractor.

What are the uses for a reflector telescope?

A small reflector telescope usually is less useful than a small refractive telescope, especially when there is plenty of light, but when one needs a large telescope and there is not much light, then the reflector telescope can be made much lighter than the refractor and usually much larger. It also can gather more light which is very useful in astronomy. It also does not have to pass its light through thick large lenses that absorb part of the light. What is more, it can reflect almost any kind of light, from microwave radio to ultraviolet, while it is difficult to make lenses for large refractor telescopes that do not absorb some kinds of light such as infrared and ultra violet. There also are advantages when one wants to see in more than one wavelength (colour) of light. It is difficult to prevent the different colours from separating out when passing through a large lens, but a reflector telescope does not have this problem much.

What is the good thing about relfecting telescope?

It gathers more light than a refractor type of telescope can, of the same size.

What is a reflector that uses more than one secondary mirror is called?

Reflector telescopes are cheaper to make than refractors of the same size than passing through it, only one side of the reflector telescope's Often a secondary mirror is used to redirect the light into a more convenient viewing spot.

Which type of telescope uses concave mirrors to increase the size of the image being viewed?

Refracting

Is gold a better reflector than gold and why?

Gold is exactly as good a reflector as gold. Because it is the same thing.

Why do you think the hubble telescope is better than a telescope on Earth?

it can see further.

What are the features of the Skyquest XT8 telescope?

The Orion Skyquest XT8 has many unique features that make it one of the most popular telescopes. It has a larger than normal glass reflector, 8" reflector optics, stable base and comes with special software and accessories.

Most powerful telescope in the world?

it should be the hubble space telescope because it can see 10 times better than a normal telescope

What are some telescopes names?

The two types are refractor and reflector. In a refracting telescope, the light comes in THROUGH a magnifying LENS where it is REFRACTED (bent) to focus the light into an objective lens. In a reflecting telescope, the light BOUNCES OFF a curved magnifying MIRROR , and then reflected again on a secondary mirror to direct the light into an objective lens. Among the advantages of a reflecting telescope are that in a refracting lens, the thickness of the lens can absorb some of the light, while a mirror reflects all of the light. Additionally, a reflecting telescope can "fold" the telescope into a much more compact instrument, which is essential with especially large devices. A large refracting telescope would be enormously heavy and cumbersome.
