You don't talk about how "heavy" an astronomical object is; after all, what are you you weighing it on? - Weight is the force of gravity - for example, my weight is how strong Earth attracts me. What is relevant about astronomical objects is their MASS, not their weight.Regulus has about 3.8 times the mass of our Sun.

The reason it has heavier elements is that these come from the nebula that formed the Sun. The heavier elements are thought to have come from stars that exploded as "supernovas", a long time ago.
