There have been a few incidences where the speculation in Science Fiction has in fact become true. The most famous example is Arthur C. Clarke's prediction on synchronous satellites.

The science can be fiction or already possible. What matters is that you have a believable character using that science or perhaps a warning where that science could take us in the future.
