Is sequerol safe for sleep

My 9 year old son is on sequerol which has helped alot. But from what I've found out it is safe and we were told to give it at bedtime. My son had a sleep study test and on the test it showed because of the sequerol he can't go into REM sleep. For the first time in 9 years he sleeps sound through the night.
