I think it is an alkali. I think dirt and all that gets on your hair is acid. And alkalis cancel out acids and visa versa. But if what gets on your head is an alkali, than shampoo is an acid.

This website has a picture of the label, it will probably say ??? acid as one of the ingredients if shampoo is an acid.
However, the presence of an Acid in the shampoo is not necessarily an indicator that the shampoo is acidic. Acid is added to alkaline solutions in order to decrease the alkalinity back towards neutral (balanced) .OR. bring it past neutral to an acid.
The only way to really tell is to either conduct a litmus test, contact the supplier or purchase products that have a label stating the pH.
