Hi, as a Shiatsu therapist I feel qualified to answer this. Shiatsu isn't exactly an energy technique in the same way that Reiki is, it is a Japanese Massage using the fingers, thumbs, elbows and knees to apply pressure to meridians and pressure points throughout the body. The aim is to balance the inner energies of the body to allow the body to heal itself. So the energy being worked with is the bodies own energy, there isn't any 'channeling' of energy, although the bio-electrical energy of Shiatsu therapists has been measured as stronger and more powerful than usual peoples field.
"Zen" is a form of the Buddhist belief. Shiatsu is a technique of moving muscles and nerves around with hands and fingers to keep them healthy and relaxed.
The aim of shiatsu is to restore the proper flow of bodily energy by massaging the surface of the skin along the meridian lines

Hi, I'm a shiatsu therapist, so I feel qualified to answer this. Without the concept of Qi, the treatment would be exactly the same, as Shiatsu is defined by the techniques used. Without the existence of Qi (which is what I think you are getting it) a Shiatsu would be more like a sports massage, physiotherapy massage or deep tissue massage, as they are 'similar' in technique... but only loosely.
The shiatsu technique is practiced at numerous massage schools across the United States. By signing up for classes at organizations like the Body Work Career Institute and the Shiatsu Massage School of California, interested students can learn proper massage techniques and become professionals.
Masunaga was the founder of the Zen Shiatsu which was his main contribution to shiatsu.
Tempaku contribution to shiatsu was that he thoroughly researched the origins of shiatsu therapy and reported it.
Shiatsu is a Japanese form of acupressure.
The scientific name for shiatsu massage therapy is "shiatsu therapy" or "shiatsu massage." It is a form of Japanese bodywork based on the theoretical framework of traditional Chinese medicine.
Shiatsu and acupressure are forms of Asian Bodywork Therapy. They use pressure, stretching, and other manipulations to relieve stress and pain and to promote health. The difference between acupressure and shiatsu is that in acupressure you focus on a point or series of points to correct energy flow. This is done also in shiatsu, but there is an emphasis in balancing the interaction of the energetic flow in the meridian system. Shiatsu uses stretches to balance meridians as well.
Unlike a standard body massage, Shitasu is different because it uses a specific technique. A form of Japanese bodywork, Shiatsu massage uses localized finger pressure done in a rhythmic sequence to relieve tension and stress from the body.
One well-known Japanese massage method is Shiatsu, which involves applying pressure to specific points on the body using fingers, palms, and elbows. This technique is based on traditional Chinese medicine principles, aiming to balance the body's energy (or "ki") and promote relaxation and healing. Shiatsu can help alleviate stress, relieve pain, and improve overall well-being. Another notable technique is Anma, a form of traditional Japanese massage that combines acupressure and kneading to enhance circulation and relieve muscle tension.
