When I was a kid (About 50 Years Back) Sonpur was "Officially" the longest platform in the world. I was told this was due to long goods trains transported animals for "The Fair".
I have travelled through Sonpur sonics 1967, the platform looked long but not record breaking. Mind it that time train used to be small with steam engines.
I have never been to Kharagpur but I am from Gorakhpur. Platform One and Two are basically ONE Platform divided in two Two. The total length is long. Long enough to be world record, I do not know.
Indian Railways should provide the information. Any RTI activist in Gorakhpur?
