there are a number of species of sea sponges if that is what you mean by "sponge".
and it depends on the species if it does resemble a plant, some does or I think it does and some looks more like corals or so.

Sponges are a type of filter that the organisms living inside of said sponge use to grab food out of the ocean. Sponges also grow to help accommodate the ever growing amount of organisms living inside of it.
