It depends on the volume of the beaker and the test tube. Although throughout my scientific experience, beakers are larger than test tubes.
Put a glass tube into the beaker of water so that it touches the bottom, then drop the crystal down the tube and put your finger over the top of the, then remove the tube gently, leaving the crystal behind in the beaker.
