It's converted by the coal being burned.
While some forms of energy can be considered as either particle or wave, steam is not one of those. The energy of steam comes from it expansion. There is no steam energy particle.
heat energy and sound energy, are forms of energy in hot steam
A simple answer is that fossil fuels are burnt. The heat is used to produce steam which drives mechanical turbines and dynamos, which then produce electricity.
chemical energy is stored energy in a chemical itself. OR energy stored in chemical bonds of molecules
A steam engine uses a hydrocarbon based fuel source. The combustion of the fuel releases the chemical energy in the bonds in the form of thermal energy.
Coal is a chemical compound which contains chemical energy. To convert coal into mechanical energy, you use it (burn it) to produce heat and use the heat to boil water, the steam from which will drive a steam engine which delivers mechanical energy.
Light ,sound,thermal,chemical,and mechanical energy

By burning the coal. The stored chemical eneregy is converted to heat energy. That may be used to create steam. Expanding steam pushes a piston or turbine, converting the heat energy to mechanical energy.
i believe it is chemical to kinetic but there is probably no transfer becasue chemical energy is stored energy like in a battery, but steam is i guess kinetic cuz its moving, and turbines definitely are kinetic due to movement, so probably no energy transfer.

Chemical energy is released when the coal burns with oxygen in the air. This energy is used to heat water, which is converted into steam. Not all of the energy is used to heat the water. Some of it is wasted by being transferred as heat to the surroundings. The energy of the steam is used to turn the turbines, but some of the steam energy is wasted.
inside steam is tiny particals that is called steam energy this steam energy are a type of energy used in factorys
Heat will produce steam. The heat itself can be produced by different means; but the most common one is burning something, i.e., chemical energy.Heat will produce steam. Fossil fuel is burn and release out chemical energy in the form of heat that would use to boil the water to steam and transform heat to mechanical energy to run the turbine and finally transform to electricity.
A steam engine would be one example, a motor car engine would be another.
