Yes it is. When body chemicals react along with the vitamin D from the sun it produces a dark color called tan. This is a protective coating that the skin produces naturally. While this might look good at first, it is actually damaging to the skin. And as time goes by it produces, dry cracked skin and age spots as well as wrinkles that may or may not go away.
