There is a possibility because the muscle is generally resposible for walking and hip rotation, but if the patient still had the gluteus minimus than that muscle can compensate for the gluteus maximus. I had my gluteus maximus removed and I am still walking perfectly without a limp, but the doctors thought I would have a permanent limp and walking impairment.
