I do not know if they have toxins but when being barbed by one it can cause great pain. I got barbed by one last week and still dealing with the effects. I waited 4 hours however before going to the hospital to get the little piece of barb that was still in my hand. I had pain going all the way up my shoulder and a rash starting on my hand before it was removed. After it being removed and an updated tetanus shot and a prescription for antibiotics, I dealt with pain and swelling for 5 days now. I got barbed on the hand and at this time I still have 2 fingers that are swollen worse than the other three and pain in my wrist like it is sprained. From what I read they are not toxic but their barbs do carry some toxins. The pet store told me it is comparable to a bee sting but please be sure to get the barb out if you have been barbed by one before waiting too long to get it done.
Vietnamese fish farms are poorly regulated so its inadvisable to eat Swai. Stick to American farm-raised catfish.
swai
No, the Swai Fish is not a bottom feeder fish, but they do have a vegetarian diet.
Swai fillets
No. Swai is a type of catfish, and catfish are not a kosher species of fish.
It is similar to orange roughy. Both are mild, white fish, non-fishy in flavor. If you have the choice between the two, use orange roughy. Swai is a lower quality fish.
I think I'm allergic to Swai, is there an allergy test for it?

Yes
Swai Fillet is typicall Farm raised in Fresh Water. While there are some areas that catch wild Swai, imports show that all of the Swai coming into the USA is Farm raised. Typically this prdouct is raised in Vietnam.
