Sugar is a name for a class of carbohydrate of which there are many; frusctose, maltose, glucose etc. Common table sugar is a dissaccharide (compound) of two sugars, glucose and fructose and is chemically called sucrose.

A mixture is a substance made up of two or more other mixtures. Table sugar is made up of a single substance, sucrose, therefore it is not a mixture.

Table sugar is a homogeneous mixture. Other things that are homogeneous include sodium chloride and wine.
