Presumably you are referring to the CN Tower in Toronto. The CN Tower does not technically qualify as a 'building.' Until recently, it was the World's Tallest Free-Standing Structure. There was a television antenna in Russia that was taller, and more recently one in Blanchard, North Dakota at 628.8 meters, but they are supported by guy-wires, and therefore not 'free-standing.' At a height of 553.3 meters,the CN Tower held the world's record for the tallest free-standing structure for 31 years, until September 13, 2007. On that date, it was overtaken by the 150 storey Burj Dubai tower, which also qualifies as a 'building.' In addition, Burj Dubai will rise to 160 storeys and overtake the Blanchard tower. Burj Dubai has experienced some construction delays, but is expected to be completed in September, 2009.
