The Eucharist - taking bread and wine - is not a sacrifice. Taking the Eucharist is a time to remember Jesus' death on the cross. The elements are only symbols of Christ's body and blood.

Nothing can be the same as Jesus' death on the cross. His death burial and resurrection were unique.

What sacred meal in which Catholics remember God's saving acts?

You are thinking of the Eucharist, but although it is presented in the form of a meal, a sacred meal, modeled on the Last Supper, it is much more than that. It is the miracle in which Our Blessed Lord's sacrifice of Himself on the Cross at Calvary is actually made present for those assembled. In other words, when you are at Mass (the Eucharist), you are not just remembering, you are actually witnessing the once and only sacrifice of Our Blessed Lord dying on the cross. There is absolutely no difference between what you see on the altar and what Our Blessed Lady saw as she watched her Son tortured to death on the cross - it is the SAME through a miracle of God called the Eucharist.

Is Eucharist the same as Holy Communion?

Yes, in the Catholic Church, the Eucharist and Holy Communion refer to the same thing; although the Eucharist not only refers to His abiding presence in Holy Communion, it may also refer to the Real Presence or the Sacrifice of the Mass.

Why is Mass sometimes referred to as the Lord's Supper?

Catholics regard the Last Supper as the moment in which Christ instituted the Eucharist, the first mass. As all masses are a participation in the same sacrifice (Jesus Christ's sacrifice at Calvary), they are all in that sense a participation of the Lord's Supper.

What does burning cross signify?

It symbolizes hate for Jesus. Is it possible that the same folks who burn crosses, builds the crosses, crosses like the one they hung Jesus on? I call it disrespect for the same religion they say they represent. Jesus was of a colored skin tone, and they are angry and jealous over it. To think about building a cross for sacrifice is sick minded from the start.

How was the passion death and resurrection of Jesus originally celebrated?

Roman Catholic AnswerThe same way that it is now, in the Most Holy Eucharist.

How many men were on the cross when Jesus was crucified?

Do you mean who were the men beside Jesus on the cross, or the men to put Jesus on the cross

What is special about the Catholic mass?

The Catholic Mass is a liturgical Mass whose roots are deeply in early Christianity and in the Bible. Nearly everything said in a Mass is from the Bible, and many of the images and actions that take place can be found in the book of Revelations, in the description of the heavenly Jerusalem. Catholic Mass also places heavy emphasis on the Eucharist (it's not technically a Mass if there is no Liturgy of the Eucharist). Catholics believe Mass is the same sacrifice Jesus offered (not a recreation of it or a repetition but the exact same sacrifice), offered in an unbloody manner.

Why do priests use altars?

.Catholic AnswerAn altar is like a table on which a sacrifice is offered to a god. That has been the definition since time out of mind. In the Old Testament, when they wanted to offer a sacrifice to God, the first thing that they did was built an altar. The Mass (or Eucharist) is the Sacrifice of the New Covenant. It is the sacrifice of Our Blessed Lord of Himself upon the Cross for our salvation. The sacrifice that a priest of the Catholic Church offers is the exact same sacrifice, it is not done again, but it is re - presented. Only once in all of history was this sacrifice offered in a bloody manner on a Cross. When it is re - presented, it is presented in an unbloody manner on an altar.

How does The Last Supper reoccur in the celebration of the Eucharist?

Roman Catholic AnswerThe Last Supper does NOT reoccur in the celebration of the Eucharist. The Eucharist is the re-presentation of the Sacrifice of Our Blessed Savior on Calvary, not done again. The Last Supper was this same re-presentation but done before the event (the Crucifixion), making the graces of it present to the apostles in the upper room, just as the Eucharist now makes those same graces present now.

Priesthood of all believers?

The priesthood of all believers is conferred at baptism. Each individual Christian is baptized as a priest, prophet, and king, and, as a priest, is empowered to offer sacrifice to God. This is not the same as the ministerial priesthood, which offers the one sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, but is the common priesthood of all baptized Christians who offer the sacrifice of their lives to be crucified with Jesus, as they deny themselves to follow Him.
