Irenaus argued Evil is telelogical (it has a purpose), that is to make us learn form our mistakes. He thought that 'When Evil occurs, it is our fault, not God's."
However, some philosophers believe that some mistakes are too high a price to pay just so we can "learn from our mistakes".

As a definition, something can only be evil if it know what it is doing is wrong, therefore only people can be evil.
It is an example that includes evil people, being evil, but you would be entering a minefield by labelling the Holocaust as evil.
The Holocaust includes some of the most selfless acts of bravery and self-sacrifice that have ever happped, it includes Martyrs and Saints, though the evil and bad etc that it includes far exceeds the good that occured during the Holocaust you cannot dismiss those thousands who were good.
