Yes you can except for the very first models with 4 USB ports that had some backward compatibility and other features. It is more a question of whether the old PS3 can do everything the new ones can and the answer is no they can not unless they have been getting the updates. The 3D and the Move can only be done on PS3s that have received software upgrades. None of the old PS3 can have the HDMI sync that the PS3 slim has. None of the old PS3 have the lower power consumption that the new PS3 slim has. The third set of PS3 slim models will be released and now include the 160GB and 320 GB harddrive which is two to four times the size of old PS3s.
