In my experience it's not quite as reliable, since the recoil action (requiring the entire barrel to reciprocate along with the bolt) is much more sensitive to differences in load. It also takes more time to cycle than a modern design would. That said, if it's in good shape and the load has enough kick, it should work just fine.

What about it? Nice shotgun. Accurate, always fires. If your thinking about buying one then I highly recommend it.
This is strickly an opinion, but the Remington Model 870 Express would be a good choice. It is an in-expensive quality gun.
Depending on condition, the 870 Express is about $450, the 870 Wingmaster is about $725.
