Both enterprises were/are opposed by Muslim forces, but they did not/have not similar objectives.
Saladin's ambitions were also opposed by significant Muslim forces, the Fatimids in Egypt and by his mentor Nur Din. Neither Saladin (a Kurd) nor Nur Din (a Turkoman) were Arabs. Saladin certainly respected even admired Richard, there is no parallel situation today.
In short, although there are similarities I think that we should be careful in drawing parallels between the present situation and that at the time of the crusades.
