Yes, University of Phoenix (UOP), both online and in-classroom, is accredited, but some explanation of what that actually means is in order. There are also some other caveats worth considering. My admittedly long answer, here, covers them all.

In the United States, a college, university, seminary or even post-secondary trade/career school is considered "accredited" only if it has been so by an agency that's approved by the US Department of Education (USDE), and/or the USDE-sanctioned Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). No school which has not been so accredited may legitimately call itself accredited (though many -- especially the degree/diploma mills -- do, anyway).

As it turns out, (UOP) is so accredited. All the degree/diploma mills also claim on their websites that they're accredited; and so no one should ever take any school's word for it on its website, or in its promotional materials, that it's accredited. There is a far better and objective way to positively verify if any school is accredited, as I've defined that term, here; and that way is to consult the online either USDE or CHEA databases of accredited schools. Unless a school is listed in at least one of those databases, then it is positively not accredited, no matter what it claims on its website or anywhere else. Also, do not assume that a given school is not accredited simply because it fails to appear in just one of those two either USDE or CHEA databases. There is a smally handful of accreditors approved by USDE, but not CHEA -- and vice versa -- and so their accredited schools will only appear in one database, but not the other. So, if a school doesn't appear in one of either the USDE or CHEA databases, be sure to check the other one before assuming the school's not accredited, because it may still be in said other one. Only if a school appears in neither database may it be presumed unaccredited.
