The athenosphere is considered to be bendable like plastic, but is considered a solid. Plastic is still a solid, but you can still bend it. Just because you can bend an object, doesn't mean it isn't a solid, it is still the same object, but maybe a different shape.
Athenosphere is an extremely viscous liquid.
The solid crust floats on the asthenosphere because it is less dense than the underlying semi-solid asthenosphere. This buoyancy is due to the difference in densities between the materials, with the less dense crust able to "float" on the more dense asthenosphere.
