The Federal Reserve is the central bank of the United States; just like the Bank of England is the central bank to England. It's main priorities are involved in dealing with monetary policy. In the US however, a bank can gain the status as N.A. at the end of the title because through the US Department of Treasury's, Office of the Comptroller grants a bank a national charter of operation.
