It's based on each person's individual belief. If you believe there is a hell waiting for sinners who do not seek forgiveness, you try to live your life accordingly. If you do not believe, and it turns out to be true, you'll be there a very, very, very long time.

If God is good, there has to be a place of punishment. Although some would argue that God is so good that He wouldn't punish people, let's look at a human judge. Would a human judge be a good judge if he didn't cast some sort of sentence on a person who was 100% guilty? Of course not, he would be corrupt. God, being good, is also just and has to punish even liars, thieves, etc.(those who break 10 Commandments.)

According to The Bible, no liar or thief will get to go to heaven. Even if you lie once or steal once, you are a liar or thief, (like how you only have to murder once to be considered a murderer.) This view is taken because everyone has a conscience (con means "with" science means "knowledge". Every time someone lied or stole, they knew it was wrong and thus have no excuse for doing it, leaving the person 100% guilty, as mentioned above. Lying and stealing, is only 2 of the rest of the 10 Commandments.

Thus, the way to get to heaven, according to the Bible, is to trust in Jesus (God's son who died for people's sins) as having paid the debt of the broken commandments (like getting bail paid in court) and striving daily to stop breaking them (repenting.)

Either way the concept of hell is looked at, 10 out of 10 people die (150000 daily)and one should be sure about their views, so as not to be unprepared to see what happens after they die.

AnswerThe concept of hell is not a myth, nor is it something made up to scare people into believing. It also isn't from many Christians' perspective, their decision whether hell is real or not. God has clearly proclaimed its existence. He has also indicated that it was originally created 'for the devil and his angels' and not for man.

Also, believing or not believing in hell will not change whether it exists or not. Denying its existence will not make it go away, or will dismissing it as a myth. One reason to believe its non-mythological nature is to see the context in which it is referred to. The Bible contains many other sober facts which are demonstrated to be true, despite many contrary allegations, including out of context quotations. The Bible records a 'warts and all' history of God's dealings with man - specifically lacking in mythological elements such as found in writings like the Gospel of Thomas. Disagreement with the Bible does not make it mythological in any empirical sense. This specifically applies to hell.

AnswerSome scholars have pointed out that the concept of hell did not enter Judaism until after the Babylonian Exile. Hell had long been a part of Zoroastrian belief, and it appears that the concept of hell entered Judaism from Zoroastrianism. So, if hell is not a myth, then perhaps that proves the truth of the Zoroastrianism religion.

ANSWER

Yes it is a pagan myth that was adopted by the church via a catholic priest by the name of Augustine (and aquinas) Augustine is famous for his love of platoism..who was a teacher of such an abominable belief. So the doctrine did not enter the church until 300ad. The Apostle Paul NEVER taught in all all his books of the bible. The doctrine was achieved through the cryptic teachings of the main cryptics of the New Testament Ie Jesus (who said that he told parables so the truth would be hidden but to certain people - so to interpret doctrine from these parables without the support of literal scriptures IS RIDICULOUS ) and also from the book of revelation...a very cryptic writing and - to interpret doctrine from these scritures without the support of literal scriptures as also RIDICULOUS!!!
