No - it was officially ruled to be compatible with Roman Catholic doctrine in 1950, by Pope Pius XII in the encyclical Humani Generis.

as stated above (no). this is possible because though The Bible says the world was created in seven days, we do not know how long gods seven days were. they could be centuries, millions of years, or entire evolutionary periods. also, the writers of the bible knew not about science and how the universe came about. we have a pretty good idea about it today. to them, they needed a story. and God did create everything, but not in a mere seven days. animals slowly evolved into humans, and plants evolved also. But the Bible is more for use of metaphorical interpretation. Like the parables, it have a message between the lines that many people do not understand. They become frustrated and turn angry at God, because they have misread he messages. So the bottom line is that the Bible is compatible with modern science, and God wants us to explore this universe he has created for us.

Does the current pope believe in evolution?

I am uncertain of what the current pope specifically "believes" regarding the current Theory of Evolution, but what I can say is that the Theory of Evolution poses no challenge to the Catholic Faith. I can say that the current pope, whatever he personally believes regarding the Theory of Evolution would say that the current theory of evolution poses no challenge to the Catholic Faith. Because the Theory of Evolution is a Scientific Claim, and not a theological claim, the Church cannot make a judgment as to the truth or falsity of the Theory. Matters pertaining to Science are outside the purview of the judgment of the Church, because the Church was not established to discover Scientific Truth.

Is it true that only atheists accept the theory of evolution?

Is the Darwin theory of evolution true?

We don't use the word "true" to describe scientific theories. They either fit the facts or they do not. Darwin's theory of evolution fits most of the observed facts, and does so beautifully. A theory is useful if it makes successful predictions. Darwin's theory has absolutely zero to do with belief in God. The Catholic Church does not hate God, yet endorses the view that evolution has occurred in much the way Charles Darwin described. Is there a scientific theory that better explains the evidence from paleontology, geology, anatomy, and molecular biology? No. Therefore, we provisionally accept the theory of evolution as an accurate depiction of the origin of species. Again, this has nothing to do with whether or not God exists and/or loves you. Evolution is wrong. God is true.
