im assuming you have a 4.7. There is a filter/pressure regulator mounted on top of the pump outside the tank part#5012351AA $79.35 (rarely gets replaced). If it does need replaced your check engine light should come on. To answer your question yes on the top of the tank and you should be able to replace it without dropping you gas tank
