Well of corse they are. Can you imagine being in a new home with a lot of new people that you have never seen before. This is what it feels like to be a guinea pig. If you give him/her some time they should become used to you and not be so afraid.
Guinea pig, hamsters will get scared and will die of shock.
Not all guinea pigs hide in their houses/huts. They only stay in their all the time because they are scared. The first couple days you have have your guinea pig they will always hide. The more you hold your guinea pig the closer it gets to you and when the are in their cage they will come out and not be scared.
By bad guinea pig do you mean it bites? A guinea pig will only bite if it feels threatened, scared or hurt.

i found that my guinea pig was happier on his own rather than with my other guinea pig and he wasn't scared of new people like he was before.
It is because they feel threatened or are scared when we touch their tummy. But,some Guinea pigs don't have any problem touching their tummies. So,it depends upon the behavior of the Guinea pig and the reason changes from one Guinea pig to another.

Feed it a carrot. Or two.
Get a guinea pig that is calm young not to old, healthy, cute, friendly and would cuddle in youre arms. But when you get a guinea pig the first time they will be a bit scared cos they never met you in there life so give them time to relax.
