I am 99.9% sure that the ipod touch 4g is not water proof. It may be able to resist minor water damage (a few rain drops or maybe a fall into a very super shallow puddle), but if you submerge it in water, I am pretty sure you will have problems with it later on. I am not for sure, but I am guessing this. My camera has survived minor water damage so I'm sure apple created something resistant to a few rain drops. My iPod touch is coming soon in the mail, but I would not purposely put it into the water . . . water hazzard waiting to happen =S
