Only you can answer that. It depends on how you use your computer.
If you have a laptop and rarely use a mouse or if you use a smart phone A LOT then you may be more comfortable with the track pad. If your talking about the large external one then all it is is a large external track pad just like on a Laptop.
If your more comfortable using a mouse then that would be the way to go.
Or, if you have the extra money you can still use both.
Basically the trackpad is that thing on a MacBook that you use instead of a mouse in a separate unit. And if you like the sound of both you can connect an unlimited number of Bluetooth devices to your mac. If you are more interested in graphic design try a Bamboo tablet.
There are various disadvantages attached to using a trackpad on a laptop. For example, it is less efficient than a mouse.
It actually depends on who you ask. Some people think that the trackpad has got more functions than the original mouse and some still prefer to use the mouse. Its up to you to find out what you prefer.
The 3 common pointing devices are the mouse, trackpad, and stylus. A mouse is a handheld device that moves a cursor on a screen by detecting motion. A trackpad is a touch-sensitive pad on laptops that functions like a mouse. A stylus is a pen-like tool used on touchscreens for more precise input than fingers.
Generally an optical mouse provides much better function than an older ball design mouse. The lack of an internal ball to move the mouse reduces the need for cleaning and build up do to the ball itself wearing down.
