(looking at distributor firing order)
cylinder number one is the one closest to the timing belt.from the timing belt to the distributor side the cylinders go in the following order.1234
When standing on the passanger side looking at the distributor the top right plug is cylinder one (the cylinder closest to the distributor). The top left plug on the distributor is cylinder two. The bottom left plug is cylinder three. Finally the bottom left plug is cylinder four (the cylinder furthest from the distributor, closest to the timing gear). Hope this helps.
1,3,4,2 Number one is at timing cover closest to the distributor.
Number 1 is the cylinder closest to the timing belt. Mind you: Cylinder #1 is not the first cylinder to fire in the firing sequence.
1342. Number one is the cylinder closest to the timing belt.
front of the engine closest to the timing gears
Yes the rotor should be pointing to the #1 cylinder when you are installing the distributor.
the cylinder closest to timing belt, or passenger side according to vw site elsewhere.
On a 1600 cc VW engine, the number 1 spark wire on the distributor is connected to the terminal that corresponds to the cylinder closest to the front of the vehicle, which is the driver's side. The firing order for a VW engine is 1-4-3-2, so the number 1 cylinder is located at the front left when facing the engine. Ensure that the distributor is set to the correct timing position before connecting the spark wires.
To set the distribution timing on a Nissan 1400, you need to first ensure the engine is at top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke for cylinder one. Then, align the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley with the timing pointer on the timing cover. Next, adjust the distributor so that the rotor points to the number one cylinder terminal in the distributor cap. Finally, tighten the distributor hold-down bolt and double-check the timing with a timing light if necessary.
Number one chamber is the one closest to the distributor or crank angle sensor, number two is closest to the firewall. T is top and trailing, L is lower and leading. On the distributor cap the holes are marked L1-L2 etc.
