No it is not real. It isn't even based on a true story. It was written and directed by Oren Peli. He wrote the story about his own personal thoughts about the paranormal. There will by a second one in 2010.

it is real because of the people in the movie... but weather the ghost and haunting is real that's up to your imagination and beliefs... if you believe in ghosts then i guess it could be real... if you don't.. then i guess it's not real....

It was probably just made to scare you and isn't true.. meaning there really are no ghosts... but think what you want to think :)

The film Paranormal Activity is not in anyway based on true events. Though there are many who claim to have experienced paranormal activities, the movie itself was completely fabricated for entertainment purposes. The director, Oren Peli, has always had a fear of ghosts and wanted to channel that fear into something productive- the film Paranormal Activity. The movie is alot like The Blair Witch Project, it is simply a movie and nothing more. Just as rumors began circulating about The Blair Witch Project being based on a true story, Oren Peli's film too has become the subject of much uneducated speculation by those who would believe anything if "Hollywood" makes it look real enough.
