Is the pirarucu fish the largest freshwater fish?

The giant Mekong catfish caught in May of 2005 was 9 feet long and it was boasted as world record, but is smaller compared to the documented size of Pirarucu fish from about 100 years ago which was 15 ft (4.6 m).

No the Sturgeon is the largest freshwater fish, in excess of 1800 lbs for the American Sturgeon and larger for the European sturgeon.
