Scientists don't agree on where the water came from in the first place, but one theory is that it came from these meteorites and comets, and we still get just a little bit when small ones make it through the atmosphere. Either way, we have basically the same amount of water now as we did then due to the water cycle, meaning water is cycled through the atmosphere and earth systems without being created or destroyed.
