I know of no television or book series based on the beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) or it's members that is well-known, although there are some book series published by Mormon authors intended for Mormon audiences that are based on Mormon beliefs and feature Mormon characters.

I do know that the orginal Battlestar Galactica has some Mormon religious themes in it. There is one particular episode where a couple is married for all time and eternity. Which is very much a Mormon religious belief. Also their is a planet named Kolab mentioned, which is mentioned in the Book of Abraham. But the Book of Abraham mentions that Kolab is a star closest to where God dwells.

I am also aware that HBO did a show called Big Love, which basically is a Holliwood representation of a polygamist couple. It did have some Mormon themes in it because they did do an episode with the Temple ceremony in it. But... it held some inacuracies in the plot and other things which I will place in a related link.

There is also a series on BYU channel called The District, which features the lives of Mormon missionaries and their efforts in going out in the mission field. This is a true to life representation of the LDS faith and it's members. The other two that are mentioned are fictional.

Finally, I know that National Geographic Channel had a series on TV called Polygamy USA. That had a group of Mormon Fundamentalist and highlighted their belief system. However, their beliefs are not sanctioned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, as the LDS church will excommunicate anyone that is practicing polygamy.

There is also a fictionalized historical book series on the History of the Church called The Work and The Glory by Gerald N. Lund. This series goes through Church history and highlights the lives of fictional famly members who were members of the church during the establisment of the LDS church.

I am pretty sure there are lots of other books, movies and TV shows out their that have some Mormon inflience or back drop.

Yes. Scholars sometimes consider these break-off groups to be Mormon since they share a similar background.Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do not accept members of these break-off groups as Mormon and insist that they are the only church with rights to the name "Mormon". When someone refers to the Mormon Church, they are referring to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There are over 14 million baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worldwide, while those belonging to the various break-off groups number less than 500,000 combined.Properly, the members of the church can be called "Mormons", as a nickname, but the only proper name of the church itself, is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints".
