No. The language is almost the same, but the accent, expressions, sounds and wordings are completely different. Some examples are provided:

Spanish 'z' pronunciation sounds like a 'th', which is almost unheard of in Mexico.

Verb pronunciation such as "You drink": "Ustedes beben" (Mx) and "Vosotros bebeis" (Sp).

Whole words equivalent to Color (US) and Colour (UK) in the English language:

Papa (Mx) / Patata (Sp)

Computadora (Mexico) / Ordenador (Sp)

Fabrica (Mx) / Factoria (Sp)

Yes. However, it is like the differences between American, British and Australian English. Both Mexican Spanish and Castilian Spanish have several differences, mainly the accent and how different words are pronounced.

For instance, Spanish from Spain has a different sound for the 's' and 'z' while Mexican Spanish has no distinction among both phonemes. Another would be the Spanish voseo, or use of vos for conjugation (i.e. "Vosotros comprasteis una mesa" in Spain vs. "Ustedes compraron una mesa" in Mexico).

As much as Californian English and New Yorker English: both regions speak the same language, but each one has different accents and words for specific items. For example, Dominican people will rise their brows if someone from Mexico refers to his or her chamacos (children). Conversely, a Mexican will not understand if a Dominican is referring to someone as being angurriento (miserable, petty).

YES. Spanish is spoken in both places. There are dialectical differences between Spain Spanish and Latin American Spanish, but they are still the same language. (This is just like how there are differences between British English and American English, but both are clearly English.)

Just as much as the United States and England: Mexico is a former colony of Spain, and fought and won its independence in 1821.

Mexico is in southern North America. Spain is in Europe.
