The straightwire orthodontic appliances (also known as the comtemporary edgewise appliance) was invented by Larry Andrews in 1979. He based his appliance by studying 120 "normal" patients with good occlusion and perfect alignment.
Orthodontics is a special branch of dentistry which help in prevention of misaligned, mispositioned structure of teeth as well as gums. Underbite and overbite solutions are also included in this. They help in proper growth of the teeth and better jaw health. Therefore, orthodontics contributes to more good dental health and new techniques regarding the treatments.
