It has been said though it is not true, even though the sun falls mid way between the biggest and smallest of it's type there are so many white dwarfs that the sun is actually in the top 10% of the largest stars in this part of the galaxy, with that being said there are giants, supergiants, sub-giants, and dwarfs our Sun is classified as a dwarf.
