NO... They are 2 different seals. If the transmission seal is leaking then the fluid color will be RED that's leaking. If the rear main seal is leaking then it will be oil leaking from the engine and it won't be red.
remove transmission, remove rear main seal, install new rear main seal, install transmission.
You must remove the transmission are engine to replace the rear main seal.
Remove transmission and replace the rear main seal
The rear main seal is located on the moter between the transmission you have to pull motor or trans to change it the seel is on that shaft that slides into the transmission saft
You remove the transmission, and the flexplate(flywheel) to access the rear main seal.
No a rear main seal is the rear seal on the crank shaft of the engine. That portion of the engine is wear the crank shaft connects to the clutch and pressure plate (manual transmission) or where it connects to the torque convertor automatic transmission.
You will have to replace the rear main seal. This will require that the transmission be removed.
No you can access the rear main seal by removing the Transmission, flywheel etc
The only way to put in a new rear main seal is to take out the transmission (727 Torque Flight) and when either the front or rear main seal goes bad that usually means it's time for a transmission rebuild or replace.
Well the rear main seal is at the rear of the engine and would leak engine oil if it was leaking, but if the rear main seal is the leak? it usually requires the removal of the transmisson. But if you know that it is transmission fluid then I would check the transmission cooler lines, transmission cooler, and transmission pan gasket for leaks.
Depends on where the leak is falling from it could be the rear main seal leak, transmission back part connected to the transfer case, or a front main seal leak, the transmission part connected to the engine block also a possiblity is the shifter gear box if you have a standard, which also be in the front near the front main seal.
Rear main engine seal or front transmission seals
